At Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, newly licensed nurses enter pediatric and obstetric practice through a structured residency. Hospital learning combines individual guidance from a nurse preceptor with classes, simulation and an evidence-based project. Participating specialties vary by cohort; the current residency includes pediatric hematology oncology, neonatal intensive care and operating-room nursing. The hospital also provides a distinct fellowship for newly trained advanced practice providers preparing for pediatric specialty care.
